 About Us!

Betty Baldwin, aka. Twinkles
Betty is the founder and owner of Make-It-Magic. Her magical experiences have taken her from the streets and stages of amusement parks to the Atlantic City casino theatres. Her years of work have culminated into the desire to help young magicians get the guidance they need to get the "Big Break" they are hoping for. She focuses her help for them in two ways; first is the Make-It-Magic, magic club. It meets at the shop on the second and third Tuesdays of every month. Secondly, she is the Executive Producer for the Make-It-Magic magic contest. These two things have taken young magicians with no professional experience, and started them on the road to become professional entertainers. She has what it takes to help the "Beginner" or the "Pros".

Rick Starkey Rick has been doing magic since he was in the 7th grade. After high school he worked for Ripley's International in the magic shop at the "World of the Unexplained" museum in Gatlinburg TN. He has performed various shows for children in schools and even in day care and head start classes.

Rick is also a musician and songwriter, in his "Safety Rulz" concert he uses magic between songs to help demonstrate the importance of safety. He currently performs magic on a daily basis at Make It Magic where he demonstrates and suggests magic tricks to customers.

Walters State Community College

Talented and Gifted Program 2009

The Talented and Gifted Program was initiated by Walters State Community College in April of 1982. The program’s inception was the result of a request by the Superintendent of Cocke County Schools proposing that Walters State Community College design an instructional program to provide enrichment activities geared toward gifted students in the upper East Tennessee area.

Now in the 27th year, T.A.G. 2009 – with a projected enrollment of over 500 from 13 area public school systems, private schools and home school cooperatives – consists of approximately 35 programs designed to stimulate and challenge East Tennessee’s gifted students from the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades. The classes are instructed by area experts and will be conducted in such a manner as to encourage student participation in hands-on activities, as well as oral participation.

The staff of the Office of Community & Economic Development at Walters State Community College, along with T.A.G. 2009 faculty members, is pleased to have the opportunity to work with area educators in implementing and presenting this program on an annual basis.
